You've for sure heard of Tzfat cheese. How would you like to visit the very place where it was made for the first time, and continues to be produced to this day? This family dairy has been using the same know-how and tradition, handed down from generation to generation.
During the tour through the Old City lanes and ancient synagogues, we will also pass through two old, renowned cheese producing facilities, belonging to the Meiri and Kadosh families. They offer, and have been producing different types of cheeses made from sheep's milk, for hundreds of years. Some of the cheese is made through an intricate, complex process which can span from half a year to a year. We will taste from the different cheeses, meet and speak with the owners of the dairies who put a lot of love into their work, and proceed from there to two special boutique wineries in the Old City. We will taste from the wines. The owners of the wineries will tell us about the different tastes and types of wines, about the grape harvest, and why the Galilee wines are among the most refined, high quality wines in the world. From there, we will end the tour at an authentic Yemenite restaurant. The waiters, dressed in traditional Yemenite garb, will serve us lachuch, jachnun, and Yemenite soup.
And if you are of Polish descent, we can stop for lunch at an authentic Chassidic restaurant. Chassidim in their traditional dress, with their vests, beards and payos, long, curled sidelocks, will serve us kosher lemehadrin gefilte fish and kugel with a warm welcome, sprinkled with Yiddish.
This tour of local dairies and wineries can also be combined with a visit to other boutique wineries just a short distance from Tzfat. We offer hands-on workshops as well, where you can experience making your own different cheeses.
